About This Ministry
Empowering teenagers to grow in faith and become leaders for Christ.
The Junior Youth (JY) Ministry of the Rev. Friedrich Monninger Congregation, Akosombo, was established in 1988 following a Young People’s Guild (YPG) conference held at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi. The vision behind its formation was to provide a structured spiritual foundation for young believers and nurture the next generation of committed Christians.
The JY began with a membership of fifty (50) pioneer youths. Some of the early members included Bro. Jones Siameh, Bro. Paul Oduro Sarfo (now a Presbyterian Minister), Bro. Stephen Quaye, Sis. Belinda Tay, Sis. Patience Larbi, Sis. Stella Odame, Sis. Shirley Amankwah, and several others who formed the bedrock of the group.
At the time of formation, the serving Minister was Rev. E. T. Terkpetey, supported by Mr. Paul Offei Addo, the then Volta Presbytery Superintendent of the YPG, and local YPG President, the late Bro. Jonathan Henaku Boateng.
Leadership & Early Formation
To guide the spiritual and moral development of the youth, dedicated leaders were appointed to oversee the work of the group. These included:
Rev. Emmanuel Adjetey Quaye
Bro. Samuel Amoah
Bro. Benjamin Adjei
Bro. Samuel Okai
Bro. Emmanuel Wilson (of blessed memory)
Bro. Samuel Sarfo Adjei (Akosombo District Lay Rep)
Bro. Felix Osei Adu
Sis. Vida Nyarko
Sis. Sophia Ohene
The group was initially divided into three sections based on age brackets:
Group 1: 12–14 years
Group 2: 15–17 years
Group 3: 18 years
Worship meetings were held jointly with the adult congregation until the JY eventually acquired its own worship space at the Monninger School Complex.
Growth and Achievements
From the original 50 members, the Junior Youth has grown tremendously and now boasts over 200 active members supported by 12 leaders (9 resident and 3 non-resident).
Some remarkable achievements include:
Formation of a Youth Choir
Establishment of a Choreography Team
Creation of a Competitive/Quiz Group
Formation of an Ushering Team
Training young members to read Scripture during adult services
Nurturing members into church leadership roles
Producing ordained ministers including:
Rev. Emmanuel Owusu Brobbey Snr.
Rev. Emmanuel Owusu Brobbey Jnr.
Supporting members to enter theological and catechist training
e.g., Bro. Michael Kwame Amoah (Trinity Seminary), Bro. Daniel Aboagye (Catechist-in-Training)
Through consistent teaching, prayer, mentorship, and skill development, many JY members have grown spiritually, socially, and academically, taking on leadership roles in schools and within the congregation.
